StartLab Hong Kong: The First Startup Bootcamp for Tertiary Students & Graduates in Hong Kong! (1 – 8 Jun 2013)
Hosted by ISOC HK, Cyberport and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and supported by nearly 20 institutions and organisations. StartLab Hong Kong is the first open and neutral platform to gather all the support, locally and overseas, which aims at fostering startups and its ecosystem in Hong Kong. We target students who want to start their own businesses, are willing to experience and practise entrepreneurship with the application of Internet technologies, and learn quickly from and share with the community. How does Internet Freedom matter to you? (16 Apr @ HKCEE)

In Dec 2012, the ITU facilitated the The World Conference on International Telecommunications 2012 (WCIT-12). WCIT-12 was to review and update the International Telecommunications Regulations (ITR) whose last update happened over 20 years ago.
 
The new ITR has been challenged and characterized as a threat to the free and open Internet, which allows more government control and monitoring over the Internet, or even shutting down the Internet. Why does it matter to you? How will it impact the balance of cyber security, privacy and Internet freedom?

Organized by ISOC HK and Cyberport, a successful seminar took place on 21 Mar.  Speakers from Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, Google, CSA HK & Macau Chapter, ISOC HK shared great ideas, plans and experience on “Protecting Security & Privacy on the Cloud”.  Nearly 200  participants came and support this event!

To get our voice heard and put into actions, we have been communicating and cooperating with the government and the legislator. A meeting with Hon. Charles Mok, Legislative Councilor (IT) who is also the Founding Chair of ISOC HK was arranged for direct communication. The visit and meeting was well attended by nearly 40 members. Charles gave his updates in LegCo work and exchanged ideas with our members.

IPv6 Now Project: Hong Kong Ready for the Next Step towards IPv6

Authority’s initiative successful in elevating public awareness [Hong Kong – 31 January, 2013]

The Internet Society Hong Kong announced today the success of the HKSAR Government-initiated “IPv6 In Action” campaign. Two benchmarking surveys conducted before and after the campaign revealed:

  • Elevated awareness levels of IPv4 and IPv6 among the public and SMEs Internet users (IPv4: 71 per cent to 88 per cent, IPv6: 57.5 per cent to 86 per cent);
  • More people are aware about the depletion of IPv4 address space (68 per cent to 81 per cent);
  • More people understand that IPv6 is not directly compatible with IPv4 and action needs to be taken in order to enable IPv6 in their usual Internet environment (40 per cent to 57 per cent);….
