**HOW DOES INTERNET FREEDOM MATTER TO YOU?
**_- Internet Governance and Freedom beyond WCIT _
Cyber Security, Privacy and Internet Freedom are cornerstones of the life of the Internet. In Dec 2012, the ITU facilitated the The World Conference on International Telecommunications 2012 (WCIT-12). WCIT-12 was to review and update the International Telecommunications Regulations (ITR) whose last update happened over 20 years ago, when the Internet was still in its infancy. The amended version of the Regulations finally was only signed by 89 of the 152 countries. The new ITR has been challenged and characterized as a threat to the free and open Internet, which allows more government control and monitoring over the Internet, or even shutting down the Internet, when there is a belief that it may interfere in the internal affairs of other states or that information of a sensitive nature might be shared. It is all about Internet governance and freedom. How does this matter to you? How will it impact the balance of cyber security, privacy and Internet freedom? Please join and discuss with us. | Date | | 16 April 2013 (Tue)
